Cook's Seafood
About This Spot
Stepping into Cook’s Seafood on El Camino Real in Menlo Park feels like slipping into a beloved local tradition where the rhythm is set by the sizzle of frying seafood and the hum of friendly exchanges. The space leans into a casual, no-fuss vibe—part neighborhood fish and chips joint, part fresh fish market—that warmly invites guests to slow down and savor the simple pleasures of the sea. Here, the atmosphere balances a familiar ease with an undercurrent of anticipation, as if the freshest catch of the day is just waiting to be discovered and enjoyed.
The pace at Cook’s is unhurried but efficient, making it ideal whether you’re dropping by for a quick, satisfying lunch or lingering over a late afternoon meal with friends. The open order counter at the heart of the room creates a welcoming focal point where the day’s selections are bright and visible, quietly reflecting the care poured into sourcing and preparing each dish. It’s a place where the aromas of golden fried prawns and warming clam chowder mingle with the occasional zest of lemon pepper or the sweet brine of freshly shucked oysters.
Ordering here feels like a small act of discovery. Whether you choose a platter of crispy halibut, the hearty richness of cioppino, or a crab sandwich piled high with tender meat, your meal is a fresh, thoughtfully composed experience. The menu embraces both tradition and variety, complemented by sides like crispy onion rings or creamy cole slaw that round out the flavors without stealing the spotlight. Pair your dish with a cold Blue Moon or a classic root beer to complete the moment.
Behind Cook’s inviting simplicity is a genuine commitment to quality and community. Locals return time and again not only for the consistently fresh seafood but for the warmth in the service and the ease of the setting—a steady refuge from the bustle nearby. Over the years, it’s grown into a place where regulars know they can expect both familiar favorites and the occasional seasonal surprise, each served with the quiet generosity that only a long-standing neighborhood spot can offer.

Best fish and chips in the Bay. Half fish and chips restaurant and half fish market. Some of the freshest seafood around

5/15/2025 Cook's Seafood 751 El Camino Real Menlo Park, CA 94025 I went there with an old buddy for a late lunch on a Thursday afternoon. The place is on ECR close to Stanford. The ambiance is contemporary fast food, both exterior and interior. There is ample parking around the building. There is an order counter in the center of the building with an order board. With a fish market on the right and the dining area on the left. My buddy ordered the halibut and I had the Calamari and Chips with a 6 oz. Cioppino. Our food was brought to our table shortly. My Cioppino was loaded with seafood in a tasty tomatoey broth. My Calamari breading was nicely crunchy and very tender. The fries were okay but a little soggy. The halibut consisted of two thick fillets with a crunchy golden brown batter. I asked for cocktail sauce for my Calamari, this had a strong unpleasant clove taste. Great fast casual seafood value. Big menu selections, definitely repeatable.

The best fish and chips I've had in the area! The service is always speedy and friendly and the food is simply delicious. They have various fish options, and other options aside from fish and chips, coupled with a little fish market which also sells malt vinegar. I'll be honest, I could go here several times a week and still love it! The portion sizes are great too, and definitely good value for your money!

I really like the food here. The prices are great, people and restaurant staff are very kind and friendly. My best place in the whole Bay Area to eat seafood. Thanks for the great service .

My go to place for high quality fresh seafoods for over 25 years, especially live Maine Lobster and live Dungeness Crab.

Really enjoyed our first time visit. Both cod and halibut were good but The lunch special halibut we felt was more tender and juicy. The cole slaw also tasted very fresh. Tried the special fresh oysters and they were chilled and fresh. Not much of an ambience but as long as the food is fresh and tasty then that's fine.
